The 164th Grand Master of Masons in Virginia for 2009 is Most Worshipful Doctor Jeffery Eugene Hodges. Most Worshipful Hodge’s theme for 2009 is “Discovering Your Potential”. One of his ‘Special Emphasis’ programs for 2009 is the Mentorship Program. I feel very strong on this, and have proclaimed this our District Ten theme for 2009, as it is imperative in our lodges of the Tenth Masonic District that we re-invigorate and renew our efforts to teach Freemasonry to our Brethren. This does not mean just teaching the ritual to them or giving them the Mentor’s Manual. This means a long term obligation to teach Masonry, be a friend to them and their families, attend lodge with them and be the “Masonic father” figure they need to become regular lodge attendees and outstanding Masons. The future of our small membership rural lodges depends on bringing along the newly raised Master Mason, to assist in his lodge involvement and to show him what each of us have benefited from in our long years in the craft. We each knocked at the ‘West Gate’ for a reason, let this reason continue to strengthen our lodges, attend on a regular basis, invite and bring a Brother Master Mason along with you. Make visitations to home bound Master Masons, let them know that they are appreciated and are still a part of this wonderful fraternity. Be proud of your membership in Freemasonry and support its activities and charities.

Always at your fraternal service,

Right Worshipful Mikel Stanley Johnson

About the 10th Masonic District...

The 10th Masonic District is located in the Piedmont Region in Central Virginia. The 10th District is comprised of five Lodges:

  • Cabell Lodge No. 328, Kents Store, VA

  • Day Lodge No. 58, Louisa, VA

  • Mineral Lodge No. 311, Mineral, VA

  • Murray Lodge No. 175, Fredericks Hall, VA

  • Waddell Lodge No. 228, Gordonsville, VA

The 10th District is rich in Masonic, natural, and cultural history with Lodges dating back to the early 1800's. One of the Lodges was originally built as a church with a Lodge on the second floor of the building. It was also used as a hospital during the Civil War. These buildings are evident of the beautiful traditions of Freemasonry.

If you are interested in becoming a Mason, please feel free to check our membership page for frequently asked questions and contact information for the Lodge closest to you.
