Welcome to the 10th Masonic District, AF & AM, Virginia

Meet the District Deputy Grand Master (DDGM)...

Welcome to the 10th Masonic District website! Please feel free to browse our site for futher information about Freemasonry in Virginia and, more especially, the 10th Masonic District.

I want to thank the brethren of the 10th Masonic District for the opportunity to serve as District Deputy Grand Master. I will, to the best of my ability, attend to the needs of the District.

Right Worshipful John D. Runnett, District
Deputy Grand Master, 10th Masonic District - 2008 The 163rd Grand Master of Masons in Virginia for 2008 is Most Worshipful Edmund Cohen. Most Worshipful Cohen's theme for this year is virtue and honor as these characteristics are the hallmarks of a Master Mason. We must be virtuous by the way we live our lives and act towards mankind, honorable as our word is our bond, and we are men who can be relied on by our actions.

Some of the Grand Master's goals this year will be to grow the Craft, programs for direct support of the Lodges by Grand Lodge, Grand Lodge charities, widows program, and bring a friend program.

In keeping with the theme of "Virtue and Honor", we should also remember the widows we have sworn to "help, aid, and assist" as well. Lodges need to maintain regular communications with them especially for social functions such as Ladies Nite, Picnics, and the Grand Master's Visit to the 10th Masonic District.

We also have regularly scheduled District Ritual Schools and Lodge Practices during the year. Their purpose is to improve ritual work competencies and maintain the traditions handed down for centuries.

Be sure to check the District Trestleboard for Stated Communications, Practices, Ritual Schools, and other special events scheduled throughout the year. Let's have a fun year and show our enthusiasm for Freemason and the Craft. And finally Brethren, live in peace, and may the God of peace and love delight to dwell with and bless you!

About the 10th Masonic District...

The 10th Masonic District is located in the Piedmont Region in Central Virginia. The 10th District is comprised of five Lodges:

  • Cabell Lodge No. 328, Kents Store, VA

  • Day Lodge No. 58, Louisa, VA

  • Mineral Lodge No. 311, Mineral, VA

  • Murray Lodge No. 175, Fredericks Hall, VA

  • Waddell Lodge No. 228, Gordonsville, VA

The 10th District is rich in Masonic, natural, and cultural history with Lodges dating back to the early 1800's. One of the Lodges was originally built as a church with a Lodge on the second floor of the building. It was also used as a hospital during the Civil War. These buildings are evident of the beautiful traditions of Freemasonry.

If you are interested in becoming a Mason, please feel free to check our membership page for frequently asked questions and contact information for the Lodge closest to you.
